How Reforming Welfare and Gutting Programs for the Poor Became a Bipartisan Platform | Alternet
Progressives have been so wrong about Welfare To Work perhaps the number one success that President Clinton had in his Presidency. That has moved millions of people from Welfare to well Work, which is what it was designed to do, because it established that Public Assistance was no longer free for people who need it. And that it was going to be step up and opportunity for people who need it, to get themselves off of Welfare Insurance and part of the workforce, where they can support themselves and their families. Rather then living off of Public Assistance becoming a way of life and from day Progressives have seen this as somehow mean that we would require people on Public Assistance to actually. Prepare themselves to go to work and empower them to be Self Sufficient by getting them back in school and into Job Training and Job Placement, rather then just allowing them to live off of people who work for a living. And have fed into this stereotype about Progressives that they want government to take care of people, rather then empower people to be able to take care of themselves.
